Without a doubt, one of the best things about running a coworking space is meeting the members and finding out what they do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the most unique professions is family mediation ... something Jasmin Newman hopes no-one will ever need. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jasmin helps families navigate the stressful process of separation with lots of love and understanding, so that they can reach an amicable solution that works for their family. I recently asked Jasmin a few questions about her business: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• What is 'Jasmin Newman Mediation' and why did you start your own business? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I provide Family Dispute Resolution services for separating parents. I wanted to provide a child-focused dispute resolution service that gave practical advice and hands on support, while meeting the needs of the what is considered fair and equitable in family law. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Why did you get into the family mediation industry?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wanted to help parents resolve their own disputes, rather than relying on the already over-burdened family courts. I am a passionate advocate for a less adversarial family law system and I believe that the only way to do this is to bring families together in an open, supportive environment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• What do you love about the work you do the most?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The most consistent thing I do is spend time listening to peoples' stories. Sometimes offloading and talking about all the aspects you're finding difficult is all you need to move forward. It helps tremendously to feel heard and validated and in turn, this reminds me that my job changes lives. This is really important to me and such a special part of my job.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jasmin also runs two online courses: 'Parenting After Separation' & 'Breaking the Cycle of Conflict'. Simply google 'Jasmin Newman Mediation' for more info.

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... keep your home address safe.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're still using your home address as your business address, you need to save this post. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Using your home address as your business address is risky ... especially if it's on your website, in your newsletter footer, on marketing material or you've registered your Google My Business listing to home. It's particularly concerning if you're planning on going away this summer, too!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But never fear ... the solution is super simple. You just need a virtual membership at your favourite local coworking space 😜 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Essentially, you use our address as your business address (even for Google My Business), we'll collect your mail (and let you know when it comes in), plus we'll give you complimentary access to our breakout areas and discounted casual desks ($25 a day) and meeting rooms (10% off).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's how to get one: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
STEP 1: DM me⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And you know what, it's summer, so how about we give you a discounted rate? How's $30/mth for the first 3 months?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who needs to look all professional this summer while you're actually sipping mojitos and working on your tan?
...

Seriously, are Summer holidays here yet? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not quite (it's exactly 1 month until Christmas = 😳🥳) but we're bringing summer forward & releasing our summer offer early ... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yep, everyone's favourite offer is back ... new members can GET A CASUAL 10 DAY PASS FOR JUST $200 +gst. That's a desk for just $20 a day. 24/7 keypad access, fibre internet, free tea, coffee & fresh fruit, no time limit to use your pass ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Actually, I think that's too cheap ... let me check that ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Oh yep, $20 a day it is. Holy Summer that's a good deal!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DM me and I'll set up your 10 pass right now. Let's finish 2020 with a massive bang. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📸by @newlightvisuals - David, you constantly remind us just how ridiculously beautiful the Northern Beaches are - thank you!

Sometimes you just need a cheeky midweek beer & burger to get through 😁

Our new mini-kegs of craft beers are a massive hit - thanks @beerlove_au

For the first time in ages, we have a private office coming up in Mona Vale at the end of this month. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's a lovely big office with natural light and a window you can open for fresh air (or close for aircon/heating!). It has 8 spacious desks with comfy chairs, or we can reconfigure it to 4 desks with a breakout area. There's a big whiteboard for all your blue sky dreaming, plenty of storage and ultra fast internet, of course. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our meeting rooms, phone booths and breakout areas are all included in the package, along with pukka tea, coffee, fresh fruit, printing, cleaning, all bills ... everything. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's literally, walk in, get stuck into your work and we'll sort everything else. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sound like you? Come and check it out. DM me and we'll get the conversation started. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

HELP! It's World Kindness Day and my plan was to shout out all the awesome local businesses who deserve some extra love ... but I don't want to forget anyone (or lots!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So ... HELP ME OUT: Shout out an awesome business on the Northern Beaches and tell me why you love them 👇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This 📸 by @mandyzieren is still one of my favourites. It started out in our first 'summer exhibition' and we ended up buying it for the walls of our Frenchs Forest space. Pop over to Mandy's insta page for a link to buy more of her gorgeous ocean shots.

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... be kind to small businesses⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ahead of World Kindness Day on Friday, I thought now would be a good time to list out some ways to be kind to our fellow small business owners...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Tell a small business owner why you love what they do⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Put a handwritten note in shipped parcels⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Send out a 'just because' discount code⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Write positive reviews of other businesses⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Give a gift with purchase⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. Recommend businesses to your network⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
7. Introduce complimentary businesses to each other ⠀⠀⠀
8. Invite your best customers to an event celebrating their loyalty⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
9. Shout your customers a coffee or add a few extra stamps on their loyalty card⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And more than anything? Don’t just do it today because it’s World Kindness Day, do it any day, in fact every day ... there can never be too much kindness in the world! (especially in 2020!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... outsource successfully⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who else has a to-do list that is getting out-of-control or overwhelming? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Michael Ossitt is well known in our spaces as the king of outsourcing and automation. When he showed me the manual he had created for his VA, I knew I had stumbled across a whole new world of organisation and asked Michael to share a few pointers on how to outsource effectively: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(note: each point is expanded in the comments)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. TRACK: track your week, map out all your tasks that you do regularly, ideally over a month. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. REVIEW: review your time log and look for repetitive tasks. Analyse the different types of tasks and break them down in to A, B, and C tasks.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. DOCUMENT: Document and systemise your repetitive tasks. Start with all the C tasks and then move on to the B tasks. If something is done more than once regularly then create a process. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. AUTOMATE: Identify all your processes which could be automated instead of delegated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. DELEGATE: Delegate all your C tasks first and then your B tasks. Employ a new team member, give them your operations manual and invite them to your Digital To-do List to manage all your deliverables and deadlines.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Michael owns @strandpropertygroup, leads local business networking group ConnectWork and has just been elected onto the board of the Buyers Agent Association of Australia. No wonder he needs to be super organised!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There are now less than 8 weeks until Christmas 🎄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And 6.5 weeks (best case!) until school holidays start 🤪⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s 30ish working days left this year (or 19 if you work part time like me!) ... 😳😳😳⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Who do you tell when you do something awesome in your business? 🥳⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you have a support crew? If not, tell us what you achieved 👇 ... we'll be your cheer squad! 🥂
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After investing in some serious digital marketing training, I learnt soooo much that I told pretty much everyone in our spaces all about it (whether they wanted to know or not 😝). And it felt amazing to share my excitement and even better to have their support.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I asked just a few of our members what they achieved this month ... it's a solid list:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @marniebeauchamp has launched not 1 but 2 new businesses: @mbluxproperty and @hiveconsulting.co⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @StrandPropertyGroup was elected as the NSW representative on the Buyers Agents Association of Australia board⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @michbroadbent landed & onboarded 2 new 'unicorn' clients (and wondered if it was newsworthy ... ah YES!!!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @snappystreetcreative recorded 39 radio scripts, a TVC, did 11 branding sessions and hosted another sell out headshot day⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @the_brilliant_content_co has launched their new content strategy course⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @BTMconstructions won the MBA award for excellence in building⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @Karita.Beard launched The Impact Accelerator Hub - a dynamic facebook group for ambitious & determined business owners (ie: you!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @amyrebecca.art sold 4 artworks from her exhibition in our Mona Vale space
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
AND, we launched our brand new website, all thanks to the team at @business_jump. More on that soon ... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

📸 @snappystreetcreative
...

Does anyone else write something 50 times and still end up not saying what you actually meant?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Camille Blyth 👆saw so many businesses struggling with this, and more and more of them spending hours 'blogging', that she launched a business (@the_brilliant_content_agency) to take the stress out of content marketing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I asked Camille (one of our MV members) to share a bit about her business with me: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What is The Brilliant Content Agency?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. We create ongoing content for service based businesses, most of whom have high value, infrequently purchased products or services. Our main output is written articles but we also do a lot of work around branding such as brand and website updates and video scripts.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What do you love about your job? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I love the freedom to come up with ideas and put them into play. Some of my clients have been with us for 5 years so it’s a case of constantly learning new things, as well as keeping up with the latest trends in content marketing and working out where they might fit best for different clients. As well as this the goal of flexibility and autonomy mean I never really feel like I have a ‘job’.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. How do you keep the creative juices flowing?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Necessity is truly the mother of all invention: deadlines, learning new skills and Morning Pages. Other than that, vitamins, sleep and having strict boundaries around work time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. Who do you look to for inspiration?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I stay in my own lane as much as I can. I prefer to spend the weekend gardening and letting ideas bubble away in my subconscious over looking at what other people are doing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Camille has also just launched a FREE course to get your business 'content-ready' for 2021 - click the link in our bio to join her, or DM me and I'll send it to you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Want to know how to get the most out of a coworking space? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make a cuppa!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Honestly. It's that simple. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's how you meet other members. Find out about them. Hear about what they do. Tell them about your business (note: tell, don't sell 🙄). Create a connection. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It sounds simple, but I guarantee you, a casual convo makes ALL the difference. Who knows ... you might even set the foundations to make a new client (or even better, a new BFF)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy Wednesday! What a gorgeous day!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I walked in this morning, I was reminded of the very first time we saw our 'Pittwater' room in Mona Vale ... the sun was shining and the natural light was just flooding in. Gavin and I looked at each other and said 'yep'. We knew it was our space straight away - it just had a great feeling about it. And it still does.

I REALLY feel for everyone in the wedding industry this year. The whole industry has been all but put on hold, which means there are countless business owners who have spent most of this year in limbo (not to mention in financial free fall).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With restrictions around weddings starting to (very slowly) ease, I wanted to introduce you to Zoe from @maple_and_june (a member of our MV space). Zoe captures the emotion of weddings beautifully so I asked her to tell me a bit about her business ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Maple and June is a wedding photography and videography business, with a team of 11 females. In a normal (non-covid!) year, we shoot around 60 weddings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Initially, I was reluctant to get into weddings as they can be high-pressure jobs [compared to the commercial photography sector Zoe hails from]. But, I'd have to say that wedding work is my dream come true - I spend my days with happy people at cocktail hour with a gorgeous sunset as the backdrop. What could be better?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pre-covid, I flew all around Australia photographing weddings. I love going bush and regional Australia is absolutely beautiful. One of my favourite weddings was in the Blue Mountains - it was freezing and wild and you could feel the intensity of the weather creating this really powerful mood. It was absolutely phenomenal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me, my work is my mental escape, the thing that recharges my batteries. I really believe energy creates energy, and being with people and photographing their joy is honestly the best medicine there is! I'm inspired by the places and people I photograph. I chase a feeling in every one of the portraits and videos I do. And I absolutely love the wedding industry too. I have formed some really great friendships within it which have really come into their own this year."

Zoe your photos are so incredible and we're so proud of how well you've weather this year. Can't wait for the restrictions to lift so we can see more of your work!

Yesterday, I caught up with an old friend who is just about to launch a new business. As we talked, I recommended a number of people for her photos, branding, copywriting & social media. Afterwards, it dawned on me that they all work in our spaces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, I didn't recommend them because they work in our spaces, I recommended them because they do amazing work. I know that because I have heard them talking passionately about what they do. I have met their clients who love what they've done for them. And I have seen the work they've done for other members (and for us, too) within our spaces. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's the way referrals should work - naturally, genuinely and without expectation*.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's also one of the things I absolutely love about our spaces ... seeing our members working together, referring each other and helping each other out is what makes all the hard work worth it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... start a podcast 🎤⠀

Happy International Podcast Day!! A podcast is an amazing way to build an audience, to connect with your clients, to position yourself as the expert in your industry, to spread the word about your products/services and, of course, to make money!

But where on earth do you start?

I asked our resident podcast guru, Leah, from @snappystreetcreative, for a few tips on how to get your podcast happening:

1. Ask yourself: How is your podcast going to work? Will it be an interview style podcast? Will you host and narrate it? How long do you want each episode to run for? How many episodes in a season? How often are you releasing episodes (weekly, 3 times a week, daily?) ⠀

2. Think about what you are going to call it. Funnily enough, naming your podcast can be one of the trickier things in the process!⠀

3. Brainstorm your podcast content ideas in advance. Sit down and write out lists of topics, guests, research ideas and questions.⠀

4. Research the best ways to get high quality sound from your podcast. Nothing sounds worse than sounding like you're in a bathroom! Will you buy recording equipment? If you're having guests - how will they be recorded?⠀

5. Editing - are you going to batch this, or will it be done each week/day/month? Either invest in some good quality editing software or outsource it.⠀

6. Sound and design. What will your podcast look like? What sort of recorded intro and outro do you want? Will it have music in it?⠀

7. Research the best ways to host and get your podcast heard by as many people as possible utilising all the current podcast platforms.⠀

Now, we couldn't actually fit everything on this post ...so if you're serious, you need to read the expanded version of this over on Leah's blog - DM me for the link.

Or if you're like me and this all sounds too hard, I'd suggest call in the big guns and get Leah to do it for you 😝

Let me introduce you to Joel and Rachel from BTM Constructions (@BTMConstructions). This brother and sister duo work together like a well-oiled machine. Joel started BTM nearly 10 years ago, after a broken leg forced him off the building site and into the office. No stranger to family business (their parents are serial entrepreneurs), Joel convinced Rachel to join him behind the scenes 4 years ago and the rest is history!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We asked Joel to share a bit about BTM with us:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. Tell us about BTM Constructions? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. BTM Constructions (BTM = Built to Matter) is a family run residential construction company with only good vibes, and the occasional golf day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What do you love about your job?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I get to meet new people every day - communication and relationship building comes naturally to me, so I really love that aspect of the job. We seem to attract great clients, which makes it even more enjoyable. I also love to share my knowledge about building and the industry in general, especially when it helps others' dreams come to fruition. You can't beat working outdoors all day either!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What do you aim for BTM to be synonymous with? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Delivering good service, good quality and being efficient with time. For us, seeing the final product, and the client being happy with the end result, is what we're all about. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. Who/what do you look to for inspiration?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Personally, I don't look to our competitors for inspiration. At the end of the day, to be successful, I believe you have to run your own race, be original and consistent with your own plans. I'm most creative with a good wine in hand, whilst travelling or and after a chat with one of the leaders in our industry. I really admire people who take risks and it spurs me on to continue improving what we're doing too.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... survive the school holidays⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🙋🏼‍♀️who's got school-aged kids (or if you're like us, little kids who's daycare goes on holidays: WTAF 😳) ... bookmark this post 👇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
T-2 days until school holidays ... here's our tips to survive with your business in tact: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Food planning: kids' appetites quadruple (& then some) as soon as school holidays start, so prep now. Batch cook snacks, double every meal you cook in the next week and freeze half & do an online grocery shop with stuff the kids can just grab and go. Get the kids involved - there's no point cooking/buying stuff they wont eat.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Plan playdates. It takes a village and working parents need to band together. Who can you swapsie half days with? You take their kids for the morning, they take yours for the arvo, or vice versa. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Plan fun days out. As kids, our favourite thing was to write a wishlist of things we wanted to do together during the school holidays and then plan them out. With 3 kids, we rotated through each kid's wishlist to make sure everyone was happy. Can't spare a whole day? Go early, get back at lunchtime and put the kids in front of the TV for the afternoon (they need chill time too, right?!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Plan your home days. Get a sprinkler or a tent for the backyard, find some big boxes for fort building, get the kids to set up a lemonade stand (start them early 😝) or a treasure hunt and do not forget to charge that Ipad (daily!!). Any work done, is a win in our books!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Notice a common theme? Yep ... PLAN! Plan out when you will work, which day which kid is at which playdate/activity/camp, when you're doing fun days and most importantly, how you can divide the responsibilities with your partner/family/friends. And then book your days in at your favourite local coworking space 😜⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What have you got planned these hols? How do you survive?

#beachescoworkinghowto20
...

Did you know your brand has 7 seconds to make a first impression? 😳So, it makes sense that it's absolutely essential to have a great design from the get-go, doesn't it?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kate from @Sommer_studio is one of our resident branding gurus so we asked her to share a bit about what she does with you👇⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What is Sōmmer Studio? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Sōmmer Studio is a design studio based around my belief of the need for brands to reflect their personality, culture and attitude – we love being able to create designs and identities that do just that for my clients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. How long have you been in business? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I have been working for myself for just under 6 years but have been designing for 13 years now. It took a while to take the leap to work for myself but I'm so glad I did. I like to think the experience of working in both small and large businesses has helped me today to understand my clients more.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What do you love about your job? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I love working with my clients - I want them to succeed and I love sharing the wins, while I also feel that design is part of problem solving in a business. Print, onsite signage, packaging and websites, I cannot help myself. My experience is varied and I love to make sure all the touch points in my client’s business tell the same story but also their real story. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. How do you keep the creative juices flowing?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. This one is easy, I need to be outside and I love sunshine and natural light. I'm forever in the garden during lunch. For me, stepping back is what keeps me creative and focused. Each project is like a little jigsaw, everything will fit together but sometimes you need to walk away and come back looking at it in a different light.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We love your work, Kate and love having you in our spaces too!!

Summer is around the corner and there is nothing better than sitting outside with friends on a warm night. I started following Growing Rooms when owner, Oliver Sizeland, joined our space. A year on, I tag Gav in pretty much every one of their posts - the outdoor spaces Ollie and his team create are next level! 🙌🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recently, I asked Ollie a few questions about his passion for landscaping and his business: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. What is Growing Rooms? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Growing Rooms is a lifelong passion - it sounds corny but it's true. I started the business in 2011 with a simple principle in mind: to create stunning and functional gardens tailor-made to our clients’ needs. We stand by that. I believe that landscaping should be an exciting and rewarding process for all involved and that through attention to detail, honest communication and hard work, each project has the potential to become a masterpiece. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. How did it come to be? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Hard work!! 😉I guess it's just a passion really? Once I found landscaping, it all just flowed and the business has grown organically. I never wanted to be weighed down with growth timelines and pressing business plans, that's just not me. As adults, we spend a lot of time at work, you need to enjoy it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. How do you get/keep the creative juices flowing?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. I find that if I'm happy and in a good mood, I design better. Stay happy, work better.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q. Who/what do you look to for inspiration? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A. Everywhere. Magazines, books, Google etc. I'm always scanning the architecture when driving and walking around. Sydney is such a beautiful city and there are so many stunning homes, and examples of what mother nature can do. Inspiration is everywhere.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Keep up the amazing work Ollie, I will convince Gav one day 😝

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... take control of your inbox⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week, I opened my emails and instantly felt overwhelmed with all the stuff I had to 'do'. A few hours later, I opened 'How to Spring Clean your Digital Space', written by @michbroadbent, and I immediately thought ... I need to share this with everyone I know!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So here's how to get your inbox under control:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Get comfortable with the DELETE button – there is absolutely no point in saving old social media notifications or Woolies weekly specials from 18 months ago. It is safe to get rid of them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• UNSUBSCRIBE from all those promotional emails that are clogging up your inbox. You can do this manually or using an app like @UnrollMe (😳game changer!!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Pick a date in the past and ARCHIVE everything prior to that date. If you haven’t dealt with it in 6 months really … are you ever going to?? You can still find the email through the Search function but it frees up the visible clutter which causes overwhelm⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Now that you have a fresh inbox, AVOID DOUBLE-HANDLING emails going forward. Then, schedule times to check them throughout the day when you are able to deal with them and: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉Read ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉Action (ie: Reply, Add to your To Do List, Delegate) or File to Action Later⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👉& then Delete anything you don't need to keep⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Right, who's taking control?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PS: @MichBroadbent is the queen of helping business owners cut through the overwhelm so you can reach your full potential. Mich is a member of our Frenchs Forest space.

Ever wanted to look a little younger? Lose a few wrinkles? Plump up your lips? Without surgery though?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ian 👆is your man. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ian owns @envogueskin and was one of our very first members at Frenchs Forest. He quietly slipped into the back corner pretty much as soon as we opened, and he's been there ever since 😝I asked Ian to share a bit about his business, and how it has changed in the last couple of years with me & here's what he said ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: What is EnVogue Skin? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "EnVogue is a medical distribution company focused entirely on the medical aesthetics business. We supply plastic surgeons, cosmetic doctors and nurses and some medi-spas with medical products that provide an aesthetic outcome. Our key products are a dermal filler from France, a medical suture for non-surgical face lifting and a medical skincare range from the US. It’s a weird business but we love it!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: How has your business changed in the last 2 years? ⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "We started in early 2018 and have grown really quickly since then. We are competing with multi-national companies with large sales teams and marketing budgets which makes life interesting. Our approach of delivering bespoke customer service in a relaxed nature has allowed us to quickly gain market share in small to medium clinics."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: What has been your biggest learning in the last 2 years?⠀
A: "Don’t sweat the small things! Keep your eye on the medium to long term and invest ahead of the sales"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: Where do you see yourself in 2 years from now? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "Probably still running around like a madman but enjoying it. We should have doubled the sales team and moved into our own warehouse by then. With a bit of luck, I will also have some more time for my family and surfing!!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks for stepping in whenever we need you Ian. You're an asset to our FF space & we love having you in our community.

When was the last time your lounge room was this tidy? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Us? Approximately 5 years, 7 months and 18 days. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kids and clean spaces just don't go together 🙄⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, we stopped cleaning up our lounge room and opened a coworking space. Now we work when we're at work, and enjoy the chaos when we're home. (Well, I can cope with it, but the mess kills Gav 🤣)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And we'd love you to do the same. Tomorrow is 2-for-1 Monday, so tag a friend 👇 who needs a distraction free work day and we'll give you 2 desks for the price of one. DM me so I can reserve your desks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who's coming in tomorrow?
...

Another of our members who has just chalked up 2 years is Jono from Solar Energy Enterprises. Jono and Gav go way back to their early media days, so it was a bit of a blast from the past when Jono walked up the stairs. He's not only a great addition to our community, Jono is probably better at marketing our spaces than we are (thanks for all the referrals, Jono)!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jono's business has seen massive changes in the last couple of years, so I asked him to share a bit about it with you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• What is Solar Energy Enterprises?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"SEE is a commercial and residential solar installer. We believe every Australian should have access to solar energy and to date, we have saved Northern Beaches locals well in excess of $250,000 (and counting!) off their energy bills." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• How has your business changed in the last 2 years?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Probably the biggest change is that we've built a portfolio of commercial clients. More and more businesses are seeing solar as an effective way to combat the ever rising cost of energy. We have been responsible for some massive solar installations on commercial properties across the Northern Beaches, including Johnson Bros Mitre 10 and the Golf Club here in Mona Vale"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• What has been the biggest change in the energy industry over the last 2 years? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"I've seen energy retailers multiplying at an incredible rate - it's not just the big guys like Energy Australia now, there are literally thousands of small retailers on the scene. Unfortunately, I've also seen a sharp increase in the cost to consumers too"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Where do you see yourself in 2 years from now? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"We're seeing the appetite for solar increasing so we're doubling down on our commercial path to ensure we have a sustainable business to hand down to the next generation".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Good on you Jono! Thanks for your loyalty & friendship over the last couple of years - we really appreciate it.

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... find great stock photos⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In an ideal world, we'd only use our own images ... but sometimes the small business budget just can't stretch to a helicopter with a local photographer onboard (🙏 ... one day!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what can you do? Find some stock photos to intersperse with your own ones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know, I know ... cheesy, posed stock photos are the worst. But not all stock photos are created equal and if you know where to look, you can find some on-brand gems.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, here's some of our favourite spots to find some not-so-typical stock photos: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @reshot_hq - these guys have sooo many fun, different shots⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @photocase - check out their monthly highlights selection⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @kaboompics - awesome lifestyle shots, particularly featuring women and you can search by your brand colours too⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• @shademgmt & @createherstock - both champion diversity in their incredible images⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• and last but not least, @unsplash - it might be the most well known on this list, but if you sort your search by 'newest' you'll get images that have only just been added (like this one 👆by @lachlanjdempsey)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are there any other sites you’d add to this list?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

📸@rosslong_ this is an amazing shot ... but faaaarout, you are muuuuch braver than me 🦈
...

I remember the day, almost 2 years ago now, the @MedicineXglobal crew popped into our Mona Vale space to check it out. They had an office just around the corner, which they were quickly growing out of and they needed a better internet solution. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Over the last couple of years, we've seen them grow to a team of 7, down to 4 (hello maternity leave!) and back up to 5. They started out in our open plan desk area and have now moved into one of our private offices. The flexibility to up & downsize and change memberships as the business changes is something our members all love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I asked Cath, the MD in Australia, how their business has changed over the last couple of years ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: What is Medicine X? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "Medicine X are a group of Doctors and Artists that explain complicated medical conditions to patients in simple to understand stories".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: How has your business changed in the last 2 years? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "Our business has changed a lot! 2 years ago, we were a start up in Australia and we have since built the business from the ground up in the USA. We've really had to diversify to grow. Looking for opportunities outside our core business offering and building new relationships, has made all the difference".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: What has been your biggest learning in the last 2 years? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "Having great people in your team, who can put on many hats and take on anything, is so important when you are small and growing".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: Where do you see yourself in 2 years from now? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "Celebrating with our team in Hawaii!!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Bring on the celebrations @MedicineXglobal. Well done on everything you have achieved to date, and thank you for your ongoing support of our business.

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... brief a designer [PART 1]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week's HDHT is brought to you by @Sommer_studio. Kate is a small business branding guru, so I asked her how to brief a designer so that they 'got' what I wanted. There is so much goodness here, so I'll split her top 10 tips across 2 posts:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. KNOW YOUR BUSINESS both currently and where you're heading. This might seem like future telling, but you don't want to be stuck in a branding rut that won't let your business grow or stuck on a website platform that won't be flexible for future growth. Create a wish list and work with your designer to evolve the design to suit your future planning goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. BUILD A LIBRARY. I don't mean for you to find logos that you'd like to copy, but rather, build a story around your business that shows your client who you are. For example, for Beaches Coworking, finding imagery that's community based, fresh and light, with colours that evoke focus yet creativity, will show your designer what your business goals are and how to create the brand that therefore draws in your desired clients. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. DEFINE YOUR IDEAL CLIENT. If your designer knows who your desired clients are, and who will be using the finished product, they'll design the elements with that in mind.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. IDENTIFY YOUR PAIN POINTS. I like to think of design as a solution, so knowing upfront the problems you are facing, makes the designers job easier and you'll get better outcomes from the get go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. CLEAR DEADLINES. Be upfront with deadlines, so your designer can give you the right amount of time for the job. If you're unsure, ask as soon as you can. My rule of thumb is 4-6 weeks for branding, 4-8 weeks for a website and 1 week for smaller jobs (obviously, all depending on each job!). And remember: a deadline too tight may restrict creativity.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Nothing screws up your Friday like realising it's Monday 🤦‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You totally nailed this shot @gfunk_ 😝
...

Earlier this week, we popped a little birthday present on each of our members' desks ... a stylish reusable coffee cup, because, let's be honest ... small business is fuelled by caffeine!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We did loads of research before we finally decided on these @project_pargo reusable coffee cups and here's why: ⠀⠀⠀⠀
• it's an Australian-owned small business and like most of us, they're working hard to get their dream off the ground⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• they're not just helping us be more sustainable, they also give a person in need access to clean water for a staggering 5 years (or more!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• they keep your coffee hot (or wine cold 😜) for hours⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• they're made of stainless steel, are double insulated, vacuum sealed, BPA & Toxin free and are 100% reusable and 100% recyclable too⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• they're a 12oz/large size, but have an 8oz/small line so the baristas don't need to guess where to fill to for those of us who love a small coffee #genius⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• they have a lifetime warranty ... if that's not confidence, I don't know what is!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks @project_pargo, you guys are doing great things!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Want your own? Well, I guess you'll just have to become a member 😁 ... DM to book your free trial.

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... get the most out of your photography session 📸
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We've had 6 photography sessions since we opened, and our most recent one was, by far, the absolute best. Any ideas why?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nope, we didn't change photographer!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We simply planned it better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our resident photographer, Leah (@snappystreetcreative), has been telling me for ages to prepare better, but I never quite got around to it 😬 This time I did ... and I literally want to use every single photo straight away!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, here's how I prepped:
1. I thought about how I wanted to use the shots - eg: on our website, socials, newsletters, signage, etc. This meant I needed a combo of portrait, landscape and square shots.
2. Every time I saw an image I loved (eg: on insta, pinterest, etc), I saved it into a little file, like a mini vision board for the shoot. I then sent them to Leah so she knew the style I was aiming for
3. I went through each area of our spaces and wrote down the types of shots I wanted taken. Of course, on the day, Leah took loads more, but this gave us a reference point to make sure we had everything I actually needed.
4. I took a selection of on-brand props to use (think scarves, jackets, coffee cups, laptop, mobile, glasses, etc)
5. I asked the members who will be featured on our socials in the coming months to pop in so we could grab shots of them at the same time
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yep, it was more work, but the results were 100% worth it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our Headshot Day with Leah is on next week - it has pretty much sold out, so Leah has just opened an extra hour to fit another 4 people in. DM for the booking link

...

Can you believe it's been 2 years since we opened the doors to our Mona Vale space? Let me introduce you to our VERY FIRST member: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is Adam from @buzzycompany. Adam actually signed up for a private office before we had even opened - in fact, he had to step over ladders and paint tins while we put the finishing touches on the space 😝 2 years later, Adam and the Buzzy team are not only still here, they've just designed a new Covid Tracing Register to keep the rest of our members safe too. Legends (DM for link).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I asked Adam a few questions about the last couple of years ...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: What has been your biggest learning in the last 2 years? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "Expect the unexpected! Talk about disruption, COVID-19 has changed so much. Aside from the chaos and negative impact it’s having on everything, I am stoked to see that, in general, the world can come together and quickly work to solve a massive problem. Sure, we have a way to go and not everyone’s on the same page, but as a whole we seem to be moving together to solve these big issues"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: How has Buzzy changed over the last 2 years: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "COVID-19 has been the biggest change. What’s particularly awesome is seeing our platform changing the way organisations respond to the challenges. Have a read about how we helped Torfaen Borough Council quickly get their volunteers out to the most vulnerable during Covid: https://www.buzzy.buzz/torfaen.html (or DM us for the link).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re also kicking goals overseas. We recently cemented a worldwide deal with www.precisely.com (the leader in Location Intelligence software). They’ve now rebranded our platform as their own solution and the technology is being used all over the world!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Q: Where do you see Buzzy in 2 years from now? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: "I'd like another 5 - 10 major global organisations using our tech globally"

Tomorrow we kick off our birthday month ... 2 years since we opened the doors to our Mona Vale space and 1 year since we opened Frenchs Forest 😳🎉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We spend most of our time looking forward, so today we took a few minutes to stop and smell the roses. Here are 3 of the biggest lessons we've learnt in the last 2 years: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Coworking is so much more than just a desk and fast wifi. We really underestimated how naturally friendships and mini-communities would develop within the spaces. And how responsible we would feel for making our members' work life easier. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Anyone can open a coworking space (and fill it using cheap deals) ... but a successful one requires the right combination of location, space, ergonomic furniture, technology, sales and marketing, but above all else, members who value what you offer and are willing to pay for it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Global pandemics push you to your limits. Getting through the last 6 months has really pushed us to think strategically, come up with creative solutions and has made us realise just how important the relationships we have with our members are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the last couple of years ... primarily our 150+ members, but also the local tradies who've done our fitouts, the baristas who've keep us caffeinated, the landlords who've supported us during Covid and all the locals who've spread the word on our behalf. Thank you. It really means the world to us. 🙏
...

HUMP DAY HOW TO 🏄🏼‍♀️ (If you read nothing else today, read this!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week's HDHT is brought to you by one of our members who is currently having a well-deserved break in Noosa. And no, unfortunately, she's not going to show you how to dance through the waves like this ... it's much more sombre. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You see, her worst nightmare came true this week ... her personal facebook account, which was linked to her business, was hacked. She's lost her social media accounts (forever by the looks of it 😳), a sh*****tload of money and has wasted more time than trying to explain to a 3 year old why they have to go to bed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But in her true style, she gave me the lowdown on what she learnt, in the hope that it doesn't happen to any of us:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• As Seth Godin says, you don't own your socials! They can be taken away instantly no matter how much logic you throw at FB! Use socials to build your database which you own.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Put two factor authentication on your FB account! (It takes 2 minutes)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Delete old email addresses linked to your FB account (this is your weak spot!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Cyber crime has increased 400% since COVID, so you need to protect your business across the board. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Consider Cybersecurity Insurance.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• A good mentor is priceless (and now a non-negotiable) when sh&t hits the fan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who's joining us in getting all of this sorted asap? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seriously, @paulsmithimages, this is EXACTLY what we'd like to be doing right now, rather than sorting out our cyber security! What an amazing 📸

#beachescoworkinghowto20
...

Does 2020 have you wanting to get outta here like this guy? (Side note ... how well does this 📸by @mrpogphotog depict 2020?) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get it, it's an uncertain time for all us small business owners, but I honestly believe many of us will actually come out stronger than we went in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's tempting to put your head in the sand, but don't ... step up to the challenge - it will be worth it. And one of our members, Emma Kirkwood, is running her '30 Day Business Rest' to help you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Emma runs this with all of her clients and we can tell you, if you want results, this is what you need to do! Over 30 days, you'll get:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• A one-on-one Strategy Session with Emma to gain clarity on where you are now, where you want to be and which projects will get you there;⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Personalised business coaching and accountability over a weekly call with Emma⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Weekly videos so you can implement only the things which will give you bankable results.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I'm not entirely sure how this happened ... but we only have 2 private offices left ... out of 8! 😳👏👏👏⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They're both located in our Frenchs Forest space and are great for teams of up to 2 (thanks Covid 🙄) or individuals. They're flooded with natural light, have beautiful beachy images on the walls and fresh plants to make you feel at home too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Of course, they come with the non-negotiables: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️24/7 keypad access⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️ergonomic furniture ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️suuuuper fast wifi ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️10 hours meeting room access each month⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️business address⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️storage⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️tea, coffee, fresh fruit, toast and preserves⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔️and loads more ... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We'll pop your brand up on the door too so everyone knows who you are (... unless you're some sort of secret agent, then we'll make something up 😜)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... Habit Stack 🥞 ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Been trying to get more out of your day? You need to habit stack ... ever heard of it? Basically, habit stacking is when you identify a current habit you already do each day and then stack your new behaviour on top. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
For example, your morning routine might go: ⠀⠀
get out of bed > have shower > eat breakfast > go to work. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Buuuttt you've been wanting to meditate more often, so you change it to:⠀⠀
get out of bed > 60 second meditation > have shower > eat breakfast > go to work⠀⠀
⠀⠀
The idea is that by linking a new habit to an existing habit, you'll be more likely to stick to it. And once you master your new habit, you can add more ... ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
get out of bed > 60 second meditation > have shower > eat breakfast > write today's 'to do' list > go to work⠀⠀
⠀⠀
We've added a quick 25 minute HIIT session every morning before the kids get up and it makes a massive difference to both Gav's and my productivity. Can't wait for early summer starts so we can habit stack a surf into our morning routine!⠀
⠀⠀
What are you going to 'habit stack'?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
📸 @salute_beverages ... guys, your new drinks look amazing! I think we need to talk!!

To us, our members are like an extension of our own family. And just like we want to keep those closest to us safe, we wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could to keep our members safe too. ⠀

Which is why we went through the NSW government 'COVIDSafe' process to get our official COVIDSafe status. ⠀

A business can only be classified as COVIDSafe if they can produce their COVIDSafe plan and then demonstrate that all elements are actually in place when audited (on the spot). The plan involves us adhering to strict guidelines around⠀
• physical distancing⠀
• cleaning and hygiene practices⠀
• record keeping⠀
• the wellbeing of staff and visitors⠀

It's a bit of work, but our members are 100% worth it (and at the end of the day, so is our business). DM me for a copy of our CovidSafe plan. ⠀

Thankfully, @buzzycompany, one of our members, has come up with an awesome new Covid Tracing App so that small businesses like ours (and cafes, restaurants, retail, etc) can implement accurate record keeping quickly. DM for the link (or follow the link in our bio).⠀

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... 📱📸⠀⠀

Need to up your smartphone photography game? Our resident photographer, Leah, from @snappystreetcreative has these 5 snazzy tips for you: ⠀
⠀⠀⠀
1. Clean Your Lens ⠀⠀
This step is SO simple, yet everyone overlooks how important it is. Just think about how many times a day you touch your phone, and how many times a day OTHER things touch your phone! Spilt drinks on the counter top, sand at the beach, dirty fingerprints from the kids - all of these things are affecting your camera and the ability to take a clear photo. So, before you snap away, just give the lens on the back of your camera a quick wipe - you can thank me later!⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
2. Find Your Light⠀
It could be from lamps, a window, from a ceiling fan overhead, or even just direct sun. Once you know the direction and quality of this light, you’ll already be on a path towards taking better photos.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
3. Adjust Exposure Manually⠀
Of course, life doesn't always hand us perfect natural lighting. If a scene is too dim, increase the exposure to allow more light in; if the scene is too bright, decrease the exposure. Here's how:⠀⠀⠀⠀
• iPhone: Tap and hold on a particular area of the image until a yellow square appears, then tap the sun icon at its right and drag the slider until the image brightness is to your liking.⠀
• Android: Tap the sun icon and adjust the slider between -2 and +2.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
4. Nail Your Composition⠀
Think about your angle. Can you shoot the same image from different angles? Get down low, get up high, move around your subject and think creatively. Use symmetry and patterns to create a unique image. Contrast and texture are also other compositional techniques to consider. A light subject will have more impact if placed against a dark background.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀
5. Edit Your Image⠀⠀⠀
@googlesnapseed is my go to editing app for images taken on my phone. Easily adjust exposure, filters, cropping, white balance, straighten up those wonky photos, or even edit out something distracting! This app has it all.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀

HUMP DAY HOW TO ... survive the school holidays!⠀

Work and kids are like oil & water... they just don't mix ... but that's life for the next few weeks, so here are a few hacks we use to streamline the juggle a little: ⠀
• Lower your standards. Best advice I was ever given.⠀
• Get organised this week ... can you batch your social media? draft your newsletter? reconcile your accounts & let your accountant know? brief in work for others to do? A few extra hours this week, will ease the pressure next week.⠀
• Prioritise ... no, you can't do everything (note to self 🙄), so pick a handful of things that REALLY need to get done and do them first. If you don't get anything else done, at least the important things will be done. ⠀
• Plan, plan, plan ... swap kids with other working mums so you can both get your work done, schedule play dates (at the same time for multiple kids), get grandparents to dial in for storytime, get a babysitter for just a few hours to give you some dedicated work time⠀
• Exercise with the kids. Take them on a bushwalk, to the beach (kids don't feel the cold like we do!), kick a ball in the park, set up an obstacle course in the backyard ... you'll tire them out and get your sunshine/exercise quota at the same time ⠀
• Invest in some noise cancelling headphones ... this is a GAME CHANGER for getting work done with the kids around. If you can't hear the distractions, did they actually happen? 😜⠀
• Put an order in with @harvestlanefood and get delicious, home-cooked meals delivered to your door. I stock the freezer up so I can quickly pull something out at a moments notice. ⠀

We're open 24/7, so if you need to work late at night or early in the morning while the kids sleep, DM me for a code to our front door. ⠀

Good luck everyone ... we've got this!⠀

📸 @littlefamilyfilms - this is a gorgeous shot! I bet you guys could share a tip or two about juggling work & kids?

HUMP DAY HOW-TO ... differentiate your business. ⠀

What is it about this amazing 📸 (by local photographer @maryosk.photography) that made you stop scrolling and read this post? ⠀

Now think about your business ... how do you make sure you stand out? We see so many local businesses copying their competitors ... but guess what? That just makes it hard for your customers to tell you all apart. If you want to be successful, you have to be DIFFERENT to your competitors. You have to give your customers a reason to shop with YOU, not your competitors. ⠀

Not sure what makes you different? To figure it out, start by asking yourself: ⠀
1. What problems do my customers have? How does my product/service solve those problems? ⠀
2. What do my customers really love about my product/service? ⠀
3. Why do my long term clients keep coming back? ⠀
4. What do my competitors do well? What do I do differently or better than them? ⠀
5. What do I do well that is hard for my competitors to copy? ⠀

And once you've done all of that, highlight the things that you can absolutely nail, develop them further (if you need to) and then make sure you feature them in everything you do. ⠀

PS: Save this post (click the bookmark in the righthand corner under the image) so you can come back to it later.⠀

The other day, a friend confessed that she was too nervous to come and work from our spaces. When I asked her why, she said 'I don't know anyone and it feels a bit weird to just turn up'. Never one to take no for an answer, I organised for her to come in on one of my work days. ⠀

It made me realise that perhaps there are others out there who also feel a bit 'weird' about coming in? Do you? ⠀

It's been a while since we've stepped out from behind the camera, so this is us - Gavin & Casey. HI 👋⠀

We've lived on the Northern Beaches for nearly 5 years and we have 3 little kids. We started our Mona Vale space 2 years ago and Frenchs Forest last year. We looove the local area and we're passionate about shopping locally and supporting small businesses too. Gav loves road cycling (& wine), I love surfing & yoga (& food) and our kids would spend all day on the beach or in the water if they could. ⠀

We both work out of both spaces at various times throughout the week. So now you know at least 2 people ... and when you come in for FREE FRIDAYS (or a free trial anytime!) you'll see that our members are really welcoming too.⠀

Oh and this week we’re hosting FREE FRIDAY in our Mona Vale space ... DM us to book your desk. 📸 @snappystreetcreative
