Do you look at awesome businesses and think ‘dammit, why didn’t I think of that?’

Well, let me introduce you to evee, Australia’s only all electric car-sharing platform. They’re on a mission to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and support a cleaner future for us all. Genius, right?!!

I was chatting to Kirsty Dare, the COO (who, incidentally, has a serious business pedigree, but that’s for another post), and I couldn’t help but get excited. Here’s a little insight into evee from Kirsty’s perspective …

Q: THE THING I LOVE MOST ABOUT EVEE IS:
We have an awesome team, flexible work is central to our company culture so we can work wherever and whenever we want. We are growing at a rapid pace, in an exciting space. But really the thing I love most is our “why” – why we get up in the morning. We believe that we’re helping to shape a cleaner future, by accelerating the adoption of EVs in Australia, contributing to the sharing economy and creating sustainable cities and transport. All things which can help to mitigate climate change. It’s something we’re all very passionate about.

Q: MY BIGGEST BUSINESS CHALLENGE SO FAR HAS BEEN
In one word: Covid. The lockdowns last year, and then Omicron, really hit our business – hard. A lot of people weren’t able to travel, and our bookings were massively affected. It was especially frustrating as we’d been scaling in the months prior to both these periods, seeing the most successful months yet, so it was disheartening across the board when sales fell. But we’ve bounced back, and we’re looking forward to our continued upward trajectory in 2022.

Q: WHAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE AT NIGHT?
In all honesty, climate change. This is why we do what we do. There isn’t one solution to the climate crisis, but we’re all firm believers that electrifying transportation can significantly contribute. Our team is made up of Tesla nerds, a climate activist from Stop Adani, membership officer of the Northern Beaches Greens, and all-round planet lovers.

Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE STARTING A SMALL BUSINESS? Remember your WHY. There will be long nights, stress, mistakes and curve balls, but if you always come back to why you started your business, you can weather anything that comes your way.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE BOOKS/PODCASTS/SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS?
One of my favourite business podcasts is How I Built This, which interviews founders from well-known brands about how they started and scaled their businesses. It’s often quite humbling when hearing about the challenges they faced and the mistakes they made. But also fascinating in how they were mostly in the right place at the right
time, and invested a lot of grit. My favourite episodes are Casper, SoulCycle, Canva, Atlassian, Chipotle, Tatcha, Jo Malone, Impossible, Sweet Green, Ben & Jerry’s, All Birds, and Patagonia – to name a few!
